Dr. Sayantani Datta

Dr. Sayantani Datta holds PhD in Intellectual Property Rights from Rajiv Gandhi School of IP Rights IIT Kharagpur. Her broad areas of research include study of post-registration impact on GI foodstuffs. She has done empirical research on post-registration impact on GI foodstuffs and the study is first of its kind. Her other areas of research include community IP rights, technological intersection and GI foodstuffs, cross country comparative analysis in GI and trademark issues. She had completed her LLM in IPR as well from RGSOIPL, IIT Kharagpur. She had secured merit scholarships from KIIT University, Bhubaneshwar while completing her B.Sc. LLB (Hons) from the School of Law, KIIT University for scoring highest CGPA.
Dr. Datta holds the experience of teaching in School of Law, Adamas University Kolkata and School of Law, NMIMS Bengaluru. She holds an experience of teaching subjects like Legal Methods, Traditional Knowledge, Trademark, Interpretation of statutes, administrative laws. She has also engaged classes in multidisciplinary departments like offering Engineering Ethics to B.Tech students and Labour law for Business administration students. She also has an experience of working as principal research scientist for the Centre of Excellence for Intellectual Property, IIT Jodhpur. Dr. Datta has also contributed to the discussion of state government IP policies and had put her suggestions in favour of community IP rights.
In 2024 May, Dr. Sayantani got selected as a member of The International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) for lifetime. She is one of the ten members of the association from India. Dr. Datta holds Scopus publications of journal articles and book chapters. Also, she has participated in various international conferences.
