Dr. Ila Rai holds a PhD degree from the EEE Department of Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bangalore. Her research focuses on power electronics-based control designs for DC microgrids. The title of her thesis is "Design of Non-linear controller for DC microgrids with Dynamic Constant Power Loads using Computational Intelligent techniques."

In addition to her academic achievements, she possesses valuable industry experience, where she was involved in R&D work and the design of heavy machinery used in steel plants and mining operations. Furthermore, Dr. Ila Rai has expertise in VLSI design, encompassing the design and verification of SAS and SATA devices.

Alongside her industry endeavors, she has also been actively engaged in teaching various subjects, including Digital Design, VLSI Design, DC and AC Machines, Basic Electrical Engineering, and Engineering Drawing during her academic tenure.
