Alliance University marked the International Day of Yoga with an engaging and reflective session themed “From Sound to Silence.” The event brought together students, faculty, and staff from various departments, creating a shared space for wellness, mindfulness, and inner awareness. The atmosphere on campus was energised with enthusiasm as members of the university community came together to experience the benefits of yoga as a collective practice.
Guided Session Led by Certified Instructor
The session was conducted by Prof. Arun Shankar, Assistant Professor and certified Yoga instructor from The Art of Living Foundation. With his expertise and calm guidance, participants were introduced to the foundational elements of yoga. The session began with warm-up activities that involved vocal expressions, body loosening movements, and rhythmic exercises. These activities helped release physical tension and prepared the body and mind for deeper engagement with the practice.
Breath-Body Connection through Asanas
Participants were then guided through a structured sequence of energising yoga postures, including Ardha Padmasana, Dhanurasana, and Makarasana. Each asana was demonstrated with clarity and explained in terms of its physical and mental health benefits. Prof. Shankar encouraged participants to focus on the connection between breath and movement, highlighting how awareness in practice can lead to improved concentration, reduced stress, and enhanced flexibility.
Transition from Movement to Stillness
As the session progressed, participants were gradually led into more inward-focused practices. The yoga postures gave way to the deeply restorative Yoga Nidra, a guided relaxation technique that promotes deep rest and awareness. This was followed by a period of silent meditation, allowing participants to enter a state of stillness and self-reflection. The session beautifully captured the day’s theme—“From Sound to Silence”—guiding attendees from active expression to peaceful introspection.
The celebration served as a reminder of the importance of integrating yoga and mindfulness into daily routines. It reinforced Alliance University’s commitment to promoting holistic health and well-being on campus. By offering opportunities for both physical movement and mental stillness, the university continues to support the development of a balanced and healthy academic environment that values the well-being of every individual.
