Alliance University marked International Mother Language Day (Matru Bhasha Diwas) with a campus-wide celebration organised by the Kannada Sangha in collaboration with the Department of Language and Literature and Kannada Bhasha Kendra. The event focused on the importance of mother tongues in preserving cultural identity, connecting generations, and fostering inclusive education.
Keynote Session and Academic Reflections
Dr. Murigeppa Ankada, former Vice Chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, delivered the keynote address. The session highlighted the value of linguistic heritage and the urgency of preserving native languages in contemporary times. Dr. Ankada spoke about the link between language, culture, and tradition, urging educational institutions to take an active role in safeguarding linguistic diversity.
Dr. Liju Jacob Kuriakose, Assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, addressed the gathering and spoke on the role of language in education and social cohesion. Dr. S Rajendu, Director of the Centre of Excellence in Indic Studies, shared insights on how language serves as a bridge between generations. Professor Dr. Girish BM, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Alliance School of Engineering, also attended and supported the event.
Competitions Showcasing Multilingual Talent
The event featured a multilingual poetry competition and a singing competition. Students participated by presenting poems and songs in various Indian languages, offering a glimpse into the rich linguistic and cultural fabric of the country. The competitions provided a platform for creative expression and cultural appreciation, with performances highlighting the diversity of linguistic traditions.
Recognition and Closing Remarks
The celebration concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, recognising the winners of the poetry and singing competitions. The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the organisers, acknowledging the contributions of the faculty, participants, and support staff.
