Alliance University conducted the Social Immersion Project (SIP) for MBA students of the January 2025 batch. The initiative aimed to sensitise students to social issues and sustainable development through experiential learning. A total of 123 students and 12 faculty members took part, combining academic orientation with community engagement in and around Anekal.
Orientation on SustainabilityThe project began with an orientation session organised in partnership with the NGO Youth For Seva. Dr. Nagalakshmi, SIP Coordinator, outlined the vision, structure, and assessment framework, stressing that the project was a platform to develop socially responsible leaders.
Ms. Netravathi, Programme Manager at Youth For Seva, introduced the nature of the community-based projects, which included health, education, and environmental initiatives. The session featured a workshop by environmental educator Ms. Shilpa, who demonstrated practical sustainability practices such as renewable energy methods, bio enzymes as eco-friendly cleaners, and eco bricks from plastic waste. Government schemes supporting green entrepreneurship were also discussed. The session concluded with demonstrations and an interactive Q&A.
Community Engagement
The students worked with rural and semi-urban communities, reaching over 1,000 households. Activities included awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, cyber safety, government schemes, and financial literacy. School visits focused on science, coding, and creative learning, while drives promoted sustainable practices such as waste reduction and plastic-free markets.
Students also interacted with farmers and local groups, addressing systemic issues and promoting collaborative solutions. Engagement at nursery schools and organisations like Mano Nandana Trust encouraged empathy and inclusion. Environmental contributions included sapling plantations and composting awareness programmes.
Impact and Reflections
The project strengthened community ties while enhancing students’ skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving. For many participants, it was a learning experience that went beyond classrooms, highlighting the importance of empathy and responsibility.
Reflecting on the impact, Swati, an assistant teacher at Rishi Public School, noted that the programme placed children at the centre of learning and encouraged confidence among students, teachers, and parents alike.
Conclusion
The Social Immersion Project 2025–26 reaffirmed Alliance University’s commitment to experiential learning and social engagement. It offered students an opportunity to connect with communities, apply their knowledge meaningfully, and gain deeper insights into sustainable development.
