Mr. Virendra Maurya

Assistant Professor

Alliance School of Performing, Visual and Creative Arts

Mr. Virendra Maurya is a dedicated visual artist and educator with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting from the University of Hyderabad and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from Banaras Hindu University. Deeply influenced by his rural upbringing in Mirzapur, his creative philosophy is rooted in the exploration of identity, belonging, and the intricate relationship between humans and nature. His works often reflect the idyllic yet complex realities of the Indian village (gaon), addressing themes of displacement, environmental change, and cultural memory.

An accomplished multidisciplinary artist, his practice spans painting, installation, material-based art, and mixed media. Drawing from the landscapes and lived experiences that surround him, his oeuvre reflects an evolving engagement with form and texture. He works extensively with organic and found materials such as wood, stone, paper pulp, and industrial remnants, integrating them into his visual narratives. His artistic language resonates with the spirit of Abstract Expressionism—mirroring the gestural intensity of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning—while simultaneously echoing the material consciousness of Anselm Kiefer and the Arte Povera movement.

His creations are characterized by a dynamic sense of movement and emotion, often conveying reflections on time, impermanence, and human interaction with changing environments. Beyond his artistic practice, he has over five years of teaching experience in Fine Arts at the senior secondary and undergraduate levels. As an educator, he emphasizes creative exploration, conceptual understanding, and the integration of digital and traditional techniques. He has guided students in painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital arts, and has actively organized exhibitions, workshops, and interactive art events.

Committed to nurturing creativity and critical thinking, he continues to inspire students to view art as both personal expression and social engagement. His pedagogy combines innovation, collaboration, and reflection—encouraging learners to discover their unique artistic voices while engaging with broader cultural and ecological discourses.
