NSS Special Camp Strengthens Community Engagement Through Health, Education, and Social Outreach
19 May, 2026

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Alliance University organized a special outreach camp at Hakki-Pikki Village, Bannerghatta, in collaboration with One Billion Lives Foundation, Hakki-Pikki Grama Panchayat, and Anekal Primary Health Centre. Designed around the theme “Connecting Education with Community Action,” the camp brought together 50 NSS volunteers from across the University to engage directly with the community through initiatives focused on healthcare, legal literacy, environmental sustainability, education, and skill development.
The camp aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and community needs by providing students with opportunities to participate in meaningful grassroots engagement. Throughout the programme, volunteers worked closely with residents, conducting household surveys to understand local challenges related to health, education, access to welfare schemes, and basic infrastructure. These interactions enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of community realities while contributing to developmental efforts.
A major highlight of the camp was the free health check-up and medicine distribution programme conducted by the medical team from One Billion Lives Foundation. More than 150 community members received health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and general health assessments. Free medicines were distributed, and individuals requiring further medical attention were referred to the local primary health centre for follow-up care. The initiative helped improve access to healthcare services while creating awareness about preventive health practices.
The camp also featured legal literacy and government scheme awareness programmes that informed residents about important welfare initiatives, documentation processes, and citizen rights. Community members were guided on topics such as Aadhaar enrolment, caste and income certificates, voter registration, financial inclusion schemes, and social welfare benefits. Environmental activities included cleanliness drives, waste segregation awareness campaigns, plastic waste collection, and the plantation of fruit-bearing saplings to encourage sustainable practices within the village.
Educational support and skill-building activities formed another important aspect of the programme. Children participated in learning sessions covering Kannada, English, and Mathematics, while community members were introduced to livelihood-oriented skills such as mushroom cultivation and basic electrical wiring. These initiatives aimed to promote learning, self-reliance, and long-term community development.
The NSS Special Camp benefited more than 270 community members and provided students with valuable exposure to public health, legal awareness, environmental action, and community development. The programme reflected Alliance University’s commitment to experiential learning and social responsibility, demonstrating how collaboration between educational institutions, community organisations, and local authorities can contribute to meaningful and sustainable social impact.
