Publishing is not only about conducting research, but also about placing it where it can create meaningful impact. With this perspective, Alliance University’s Centre for Research organized a guest lecture on “Good Practices to Publish in Top Social Science Journals,” offering researchers guidance on navigating the academic publishing landscape.
The session was delivered by Dr. Thijs Van Vlijmen, Executive Publisher at Elsevier, who shared his insights on the processes and expectations involved in publishing in leading journals. The lecture focused on key aspects such as selecting appropriate journals, understanding editorial standards, and following ethical publishing practices.
Dr. Vlijmen provided a clear overview of how researchers can align their work with the requirements of high-impact journals. He discussed the importance of clarity in research presentation, adherence to guidelines, and maintaining integrity throughout the publication process. The session also addressed common challenges faced by researchers and offered practical approaches to improve both the quality and reach of their work.
Participants gained a better understanding of how thoughtful journal selection and careful preparation can influence the visibility and credibility of research. The discussion highlighted the need to approach publishing as a structured and informed process rather than a final step in research.
Through this guest lecture, Alliance University continues to support its research community by providing access to global perspectives and practical knowledge. The session reinforced the idea that impactful research should be accessible, widely read, and appropriately recognized within the academic community.
