Language learning becomes more effective when it is applied in real-world contexts. At Alliance University, this approach was reflected through an experiential learning visit to the Art of Living International Centre, Bengaluru, organized for BBA and B.Com students as part of their Kannada language curriculum.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Kannada language faculty members, including Dr. Vivekanand Sajjan and Prof. Kasaniya Naik, who facilitated the connection between classroom learning and practical communication. The initiative was designed to help students improve their Kannada language proficiency through real-life interactions while also providing exposure to cultural and institutional environments.
The visit began with a guided tour of the campus, allowing students to understand the scale and organization of the centre. They observed how traditional values are integrated with modern infrastructure and technological applications. Students were introduced to various initiatives related to vocational training and social services, including programmes in fashion design and education for underprivileged children. They also observed the use of technology, such as drones, in campus management and agricultural practices.
As part of the visit, students explored the Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research, which demonstrates a combination of traditional knowledge and contemporary practices. They were also briefed about the upcoming Gyan Mandir, a meditation and knowledge centre designed to support both spiritual and intellectual engagement.
A key component of the visit was structured linguistic engagement. Students participated in interactive conversations with staff and visitors, practiced situational dialogues, and worked on vocabulary building through observation. They also completed documentation exercises in Kannada and engaged in peer discussions to reflect on their learning. These activities helped improve their confidence, fluency, and contextual understanding of the language.
The experience included a guided meditation session, offering students an introduction to wellness practices. The visit concluded with a sattvic vegetarian meal, reflecting the values of service and well-being associated with the institution.
The experiential learning visit provided a comprehensive learning experience that combines language development, cultural exposure, and practical engagement. It reflects Alliance University’s continued focus on integrating academic learning with real-world applications.
