Alliance University marked International Pi Day with a workshop organised by the First Year Engineering Program. The session, titled "History of Mathematics and Recent Advancement," brought together students to reflect on the development of mathematical ideas and their relevance in the present day. The event aimed to create awareness of how mathematics continues to shape academic learning and technological progress.
The workshop was led by Dr. Shailaja D. Sharma from Azim Premji University. During the session, she traced the journey of mathematics from early discoveries in ancient civilisations to more recent developments that influence contemporary science and technology. The discussion highlighted key milestones in the field and explained how foundational concepts have contributed to modern innovations.
The session provided students with an understanding of how historical knowledge in mathematics remains relevant today. By linking traditional ideas with current research and applications, the workshop encouraged students to view mathematics as a continuous and evolving discipline. It also helped students recognise the role of mathematics in addressing present-day challenges across various fields.
The workshop offered a structured learning experience that combined historical context with practical insight. Students engaged with the subject in a way that connected theory with real-world relevance. The event reflected the university’s ongoing effort to create learning opportunities that are informative and grounded in academic inquiry.
