A delegation from Alliance University recently visited the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), one of Russia’s premier aerospace institutions, to explore avenues for academic collaboration and research partnerships.
The delegation included Mr. Hariprasad Thimmegowda, Assistant Professor & Assistant Director – Project-Based Learning, Alliance University, and Dr. Anirudh Sridhar, Dean of Thought Leadership, Alliance University.
During the visit, the team toured several of MAI’s state-of-the-art facilities, including an aircraft hangar showcasing iconic aircraft such as the Su-27, Yak-38, and MiG-23. The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Almaz Orbital Station—a space observation and reconnaissance platform measuring 11.6 meters in length and weighing 18.9 tons, designed to accommodate missions lasting up to 410 days. At MAI’s Propulsion Laboratory, the team observed live demonstrations of various aerospace technologies, including aircraft engines and missile systems developed in Russia.
Key discussions during the visit focused on launching student exchange programs, including a Summer School in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and a Winter School in Aircraft Engineering, intended to offer 25 to 30 students hands-on experience with real-world industry challenges. Plans were also initiated for faculty development programs and academic models that would enable students to pursue part of their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at MAI, with specialization opportunities in areas such as AI/ML and Spacecraft Engineering.
The visit further laid the groundwork for joint research initiatives, co-authored publications, and international conference participation. MAI also expressed interest in supporting Alliance University in developing laboratory infrastructure.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in building international academic bridges and fostering innovation in aerospace education and research.
