Alliance University got his book published on Modern Instrumentation

Prof. Neelapala Anilkumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University got his book published on ‘Modern Instrumentation’. The book published by MANTECH Publications throws light on advanced instrumentation and its applications in modern industries.

A brief abstract of the book:
Science and Engineering based on accurate measurement is the key to designing of new equipment. The operation, control and the maintenance of such equipment and the processes are also some of the important domains of research in science and engineering. All these activities are based on proper measurement and recording of physical, chemical, mechanical, optical and other parameters. The measurement of a given parameter or quantity is the act or result of a quantitative comparison between a predefined standard and an unknown quantity to be measured. The major bottleneck in using a measuring instrument is rectifying its error. Measuring instruments come with some instructions and set procedure to minimise its errors and they should not falsely reflect the measured quantity. These are the some of the issues the book addresses.

Prof. Manjunath SV, Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Alliance College of Engineering and Design along with students from the department Ms. Keerthana and Mr. Shabaresh published their research paper in the International Journal of Engineering Applied Sciences and Technology (IJEAST).

The paper titled, ‘Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer Over Horizontal Rotating Cylinder in Presence of Axial Flow’ focused on the potential research area of enhanced boiling heat transfer that puts forth the challenges of technological developments in cooling of electronic components, nuclear fuel rods, nuclear reactors etc.

In this paper, the research team numerically analysed the influence of rotation on horizontal cylindrical heating element made of copper in the medium of water around atmospheric conditions. The critical Reynolds number is influenced by Prandtl number and Nusselt number based on the cylinder diameter for stationary boiling. Boiling regimes have been divided into sub-critical and super critical regions based on critical Reynolds number.

Effect of rotation on heat transfer coefficient (HTC) in these regions are investigated. Numerical analysis has been carried out using MATLAB for solving boiling equation of Lienhard which is correlated for rotational effects in different regimes by considering Weber number and Froude number.
