Legal Conclave on ‘Recent Amendments in Labour Laws’

Labour laws are one of the most complex and hotly debated issues in India. With the current amended and consolidated Labour law reforms, Alliance School of Law has taken up the remarkable responsibility in the interest of the Nation to make people across the industry and academia understand these reforms and help them in the implementation of the same.

A vision is all it takes to accomplish a goal, and with that in mind, the Alliance University organized a Legal conclave on “Recent Amendments in Labour Laws” held virtually on July 17th, 2021.

The virtual event witnessed leading academicians from National Law Universities, Leaders of Trade Unions, and Corporates share their valuable insights on these recent reforms. All four codes incorporated in the recent amendments were discussed in detail by a power-packed panel comprising top executives shedding some light on, how these reforms help Ease of Doing Business in India?

 

Dr. Kiran Gardener, Dean – Alliance School of Law, inaugurated the virtual conference with a speech on relevance of the theme, followed by the inaugural addresses from Mr. Abhay G. Chebbi, Pro-Chancellor, Alliance University, and Ms. Anubha Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Alliance University.

The Conclave proceeded with the keynote address from Dr. Manjunath Gangadhara (Addl. Labour Commissioner, IR/Child Welfare – Govt. of Karnataka) followed by detailed coverage of all the four Labour codes by eminent academicians and practicing professionals.

 

“The Industrial Relations Code, 2020” by Sr. Adv. S. N. Murthy of S. N. Murthy & Associates; “The Code on Social Security, 2020” by Dr. Jeet Singh Mann of NLU-Delhi; “The Code on Wages,2019” by Prof. Babu Mathew of NLSIU-Bengaluru and “The Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions, 2020” by Dr. Durgambini Arun Patel of Pune University.

A Panel Discussion on “Impact of Labour Codes 2020 on ease of doing business” was also conducted with prominent panelists from the industry and trade unions. The panel members included Mr. P.S. Ponappa (VP-ERM, TVS Motors Co. Ltd.), Com. Vijayabhaskar (General Secretary – AITUC, Karnataka), Ms. Saraswati Kasturirangan (Partner – Deloitte).

The event was aimed at professionals to understand these reforms in a simplified way as sometimes they are hard to comprehend and misinterpreted.
