January 2021

Amsicon 2021

Alliance Management Studies International Conference (scheduled from 29-30 January 2021) did have its first curtain raiser on 26 November 2020. On behalf of Alliance School of Business and as AMSICON Co-Chair, Dr. Arindam Das (Associate Professor, General Management) hosted Dr. Laurel Steinfield (Assistant Professor Marketing, Bentley University, USA) for this virtual event. The theme of this online tête-à-tête was “Gender and Consumption”. The participants got to listen about how gender stratifications interact with marketplace dynamics. Dr. Steinfield also talked about how power imbalances inform gender discourses which may be accentuated through public or private organizations and consumption practices. The issues of gender equity and the lack of it in the marketplace, especially in the third world countries, were highlighted. Dr. Steinfield and Dr. Das also engaged about viable options that attempt towards gender equity in market and how consumption culture may promote gender ethics.

Alliance Management Studies International Conference (scheduled from 29-30 January 2021) did have its second curtain raiser on 15 January 2021. The trialogue witnessed Prof. (Dr.) Pia A. Albinsson (Dean's Club Professor of Marketing in the Walker College of Business, Appalachian State University, USA) and Prof. (Dr.) Himadri Roy Chaudhuri (Professor Marketing, XLRI, Jamshedpur) engage with Dr. Arindam Das (Associate Professor, General Management, Alliance School of Business) on the issues of consumption culture and sustainability.

Participants got to listen about the interconnections between markets, consumption practices, and sustainability discourses. The discussion was aimed towards an understanding of the sustainability discourses beyond the more platitudinous Resource-Based View (RBV). The trialogue aimed at engaging at lesser-discussed issues around sustainability such as identity politics, socio-cultural resistance, reconciliation dialogues, issues of ethnicity, nationalism, gender representations among other things. The discussants also highlighted the special issue being guest-edited by them in the Sustainability journal (Impact Factor 2.576).
