April 27, 2021 –  Alliance University organised a visit to the engineering marvel of our nation, Atal Tunnel for its students as part of the educational tour to experience the magnanimity of a project reflecting India’s engineering prowess.

Alliance University became the first-ever engineering college to visit the Atal Tunnel, on call of our Honourable Prime Minister. This was a historic achievement, which speaks volumes about the commitment of our university.

Student group from Alliance College of Engineering and Design was warmly received by the chief engineer- BRO (Border Road Organisation), Rohtang, at the BRO headquarters. In a detailed presentation, the officials shared the technical details of the tunnel.

During the presentation it became evident that the tunnel indeed is an engineering marvel standing rock-solid at an altitude of about 10,000 ft above the sea level. A ground-breaking feat accomplished by the engineering stalwarts of the nation that prides itself on the progressive path it treads on.

The geographical configurations at such an altitude makes construction a perilous task. Despite the odds, the Tunnel, 9.02kms long, was constructed without any causality. The students were briefed by the officials about the difficulties and challenges weathered during the execution of this mega project.

The briefing session from the Tunnel officials enlightened the students with an understanding of the enormous opportunity that projects like these provide in engineering space.

From the construction to electrical assembly to modern CS techniques which are being used/ can be used to monitor the tunnel, there is an opportunity for all the engineers. It was indeed a privilege  for Alliance students to experience such modern infrastructure in our own country. This tunnel is made keeping all the risks in mind and hence there is an emergency exit at every 100m inside the tunnel.

These emergency exits are another small yet spacious pathways that safely open directly at the end of the tunnel from both ways. The students were baffled with curiosity and inquisitiveness as the visit progressed and their questions were very humbly addressed by the BRO officials and the accompanying professors from Alliance University.

The trip went well with a combination of real-time experience and learning, extending the vision of  students and inspiring them to build the future with marvellous engineering.
