M. Sc. in Data Science

Overview

Data Science has emerged as one of the most lucrative career choices in recent times. Many students and professionals are entering this field because of the high demand and need for proficient data scientists in India as well as abroad.

The M.Sc. Programme in Data Science offered by the School of Applied Mathematics, Alliance University, is designed to mould graduates into data science leaders with the right balance of statistics and analytics in diverse fields of applications. The programme gives students exposure to the frontiers of statistics, machine learning, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence, helping them to acquire experience in solving pragmatic problems with the help of a range of data science tools and techniques. It also aims to nurture the students with inter-disciplinary expertise through a strong foundation in the mathematics and statistics, proficiency in programming in a variety of data science environments, and practical data analytic skills. The programme pedagogy is a blend of classroom lectures with experiential learning, including lab exercises, assignments, case studies, and work-integrated activities.

Eligibility


Bachelor’s degree in science (Statistics/ Mathematics/ Computer Science) or Engineering (B. Engg or B. Tech) from recognized university with minimum of 50% in aggregate.

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently Abled.

Programme Outcomes

  • Students will be able to apply skills, techniques, and knowledge in the real world with respect to different sets of data for solving or enhancing different problems in the field of business, manufacturing, banking, genome analysis, business analytics and many other fields
  • Students will be able to develop abstract thinking and design ability to be able to identify and understand concepts related to data science theories and practice using fundamental principles of mathematics, statistics, computer science and other relevant domains
  • Students will be able to use different programming tools towards problem solving and to derive solutions for them for different domains based on global trends and needs. They will be able to use research-based knowledge for design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions
