Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - BA (Hons.) - Political Science

Overview

The BA in Political Science aims to develop an understanding of the key dynamics of the political system at the regional, national, and international levels. It stands out in its emphasis on the foundational skills of writing, debating and argument while recognizing the necessity of studying the complexity of political systems in a scientific manner.

With a grounding in political philosophy drawing from different intellectual traditions, the programme will include the study of war, peace, conflict, power, and security issues to develop a critical understanding of the dynamics of international politics. Contemporary developments bring a vibrant transdisciplinary approach to political science through active interaction with philosophy, psychology, sociology, economics, and data science.

Students gain exposure through field visits, interact with legislators, bureaucrats, and civil society members, enabling them to experience classroom knowledge through observation and participation. Political science comes alive through the organization of model parliament, the editing of a student journal on politics and hosting regular podcasts and talks with experts. Students will find the programme as the perfect stepping-stone towards careers in civil services, think tank bodies, corporate sector, media houses, NGOs and UN bodies working as researchers and advisers. The course will also give them the entrepreneurial confidence to launch new ventures in political consultancy and journalism.
