Thoughtful Engagement of Members of Academia and Industry at the IEEE Workshop on Internet of Everything at Alliance University

The “IEEE workshop on Internet of Everything – A new paradigm shift” organised by the IEEE Student Branch, Alliance College of Engineering and Design (ACED), Alliance University in association with IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group (YPAG) Bangalore section witnessed participation of a large number of enthusiasts. The workshop focused on various use cases for implementing novel Internet of Things (IoT) sensors for Industry 4.0 & beyond, as well as for smart grids and battery management systems in electric vehicles.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Surekha Shetty, Senior Director, Office of Admissions, Alumni Relations & Career Advancement and Networking (CAN). The first session was delivered by Dr. Ramana Murthy, Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering, ACED setting the stage for participants to dive deep into the spectrum of IoT. He spoke about how Industrial Revolution had evolved and the dots that can connect to Industry 5.0 & beyond. The second session of the day focused on industry use cases of IoT by Mr. Ravi Teja Chilukuri, Co-Founder and CEO, Akiro, especially in the areas of media and agritech. He touched upon how the IoT ecosystem is thriving in India quoting his experiences. The third session by Dr. Sheila Mahapatra, Head of Dept., Electrical and Electronics Engineering highlighted how smart grids have evolved and how it is augmenting the Industry 4.0 needs. She also focused on energy sustainability and IoT implementation in smart grids. The final session was on the role of IoT and renewable integration in smart grids by Mr. Aditya Patil, Deputy Manager, Enel Energy.
The first session on the next day was delivered by Dr. Srikanth Itapu, Acting Head, Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering introducing the participants to various sensing mechanisms and smart sensors for IoT. He spoke about the intertwining nature of smart sensors in home automation, metaverse, semiconductor supply chain and Industry 4.0. The second session of the day focused on the significance of IoT protocols to communicate with various interfaces by Mr. Siva Samraj, Chief Architect, Akiro. He focused on a specific IoT protocol, MQTT to demonstrate its applications. The third session by Dr. Mohan Krishna, Associate Professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering highlighted the need for battery management systems (BMS) in electric / hybrid vehicles and how IoT system analytics can augment this aspect in the future of EHVs in India. The final session of day was on various mathematical models for BMS and its integration to IoT and smart grids by Mr. Sumukh Surya, Senior Engineer, Bosch Global Software Technologies.
This workshop also acted as a catalyst for the students to interact with industry professionals and discuss potential employment opportunities in IoT. The event successfully concluded with great learnings and takeaways for all the participants.
