Alliance University Observes World Folklore Day to Promote Folk Heritage

Alliance University observed World Folklore Day, creating awareness among students about folklore, traditional knowledge, folk arts, customs, music, stories, and intangible cultural heritage. The program encouraged students to explore India’s diverse folk traditions, with particular emphasis on the cultural heritage of Karnataka. 

The program began with an invocation song by Ms. Deeksha, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Vivekanand Sajjan, who highlighted the significance of folklore in understanding the cultural identity and heritage of communities. Students were introduced to the origins and development of folklore and its role in preserving collective memory, traditions, and social values. 

Dr. Ravi U. M., Chief Guest, spoke about the relevance of folklore in the digital age and the challenges that rapid technological advancement and changing lifestyles present to traditional practices. Drawing from his experiences in Anekal, he discussed the evolution of folklore and emphasized that it should be understood as a living body of knowledge. He also performed a folk song during the program

Dr. Prakash I. N., Librarian, Alliance University, highlighted the importance of preserving folk art forms through awareness, documentation, and active participation by younger generations. Discussions also explored Karnataka’s folk traditions, including examples from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, while highlighting the role of local communities in preserving cultural knowledge. 

The program was anchored by Ms. Deepa M. and concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Kasaniya Naik. Through academic perspectives, regional experiences, and student engagement, the celebration encouraged students to remain connected with their cultural roots and recognize their role in preserving and carrying forward traditional knowledge and folk heritage for future generations.
