Alliance University undertook a heritage conservation initiative at an ancient Ghatikasthana, or centre of learning, in T. Agrahara village, Hesaraghatta Hobli, Yelahanka Taluk, Bengaluru. Associated with the post-Hoysala and early Vijayanagara periods, the site represents an important part of Karnataka’s educational and cultural heritage. 

With the theme “Our Heritage, Our Pride; Preservation of Monuments, Our Responsibility,” the initiative was jointly organised by the Kannada Sangha and NSS Unit of Alliance University in association with the Karnataka Itihasa Academy, with active support from the local community. Researchers, faculty members, and students participated in a cleaning and Shramadan drive, clearing dense vegetation that had concealed much of the ancient stone structure. 

The initiative was guided by Mr. K. Dhanapal, Secretary, Karnataka Itihasa Academy, and coordinated by Dr. Vivekanand Sajjan and Prof. Kasaniya Naik, with Mr. Narendra M., Research Scholar, Alliance University, serving as the program convener. Village leaders Mr. Munikrishna, Mr. Lokesh, Mr. Nagesh, and Mr. Patil, along with residents of T. Agrahara, extended their support to the conservation effort. 

The cleaning activity helped reveal the monument’s stone structure more clearly, creating favorable conditions for further documentation, academic study, and conservation. It also provided students with an opportunity to understand the importance of protecting historical monuments and preserving cultural heritage through active community participation. 

The initiative reflected Alliance University’s commitment to connecting education with social and cultural responsibility while encouraging students, academic communities, and local residents to contribute towards the preservation of Karnataka’s historical heritage.
