Alliance University Hosts Workshop on Interactive Qualitative Analysis and NVivo for Research
02 June, 2026

Qualitative research requires conceptual clarity, structured thinking, and practical analytical skills. To support this need, the Department of General Management, Alliance School of Business, Alliance University, organized a workshop on Interactive Qualitative Analysis (IQA) and NVivo for Research. The program brought together faculty members, research scholars, academicians, and corporate professionals from different institutions for a focused learning experience in qualitative research methods.
The workshop was led by Dr. Ananthavalli Ramesh, Associate Professor, Alliance School of Business, and Dr. Nimitha Aboobaker, Assistant Professor, School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology. The sessions introduced participants to key areas of qualitative inquiry, including research problem formulation, participatory methods, systems thinking, interview coding, thematic analysis, and software-assisted data analysis.
The first part of the workshop focused on Interactive Qualitative Analysis. Participants were introduced to affinity generation, relationship mapping, structured inquiry, and the development of System Influence Diagrams. Through guided exercises and collaborative activities, they learned how to organize qualitative data and derive meaningful insights from interviews, texts, and observations.
The second part focused on NVivo-based qualitative data analysis. Participants received practical exposure to project creation, importing datasets, coding procedures, node development, memo writing, annotations, framework matrices, models, charts, and visualization tools. Sample datasets and live demonstrations helped them understand how qualitative evidence can be analyzed and presented systematically.
The workshop followed an interactive and experiential approach, combining conceptual discussions with hands-on practice. Resource materials, including presentations, research papers, datasets, coding examples, and reference notes, were also shared with the participants.
The program helped participants strengthen their understanding of qualitative research and develop practical skills in both IQA and NVivo. It reflected Alliance University's continued focus on research capacity building, academic engagement, and meaningful learning through specialized workshops.
