Alliance School of Law hosted a guest lecture on “Special Leave Petitions” by Adv. Ajay Awasthi, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, and Managing Partner, Prudentia & Partners, Advocates & Solicitors. The session was designed to give students a practical understanding of appellate litigation and the role of Special Leave Petitions within the Indian legal system.

The lecture focused on Article 136 of the Constitution of India, helping students understand the legal basis, scope, and significance of Special Leave Petitions before the Supreme Court of India. Adv. Awasthi also discussed important aspects of legal drafting, litigation strategy, appellate advocacy, and case preparation, drawing from his professional experience in courtroom practice.

The interaction gave students an opportunity to look beyond theoretical concepts and understand how legal principles are applied in practice. The discussion also highlighted the importance of clarity in drafting, strategic thinking in litigation, and the need to build persuasive legal arguments while appearing before higher courts.

Students gained useful exposure to the nuances of advocacy, case strategy, and the responsibilities of a practising lawyer. The session helped them connect classroom learning with the demands of professional legal practice and better understand the skills required for appellate work.
