Alliance School of Design welcomed its new cohort with a hands-on Block Printing Workshop organized as part of Student Orientation 2026. The session introduced students to the School’s practice-based learning environment through an activity that combined creativity, experimentation, and collaborative engagement.

The workshop was led by Usha Janardhan, Prof. Parul Sachdeva, and Prof. Richa Ekka, who introduced students to the fundamentals of block printing. Participants explored pattern, colour, composition, and repetition while understanding how traditional surface-design techniques can be interpreted through a contemporary design approach.

Students began by experimenting with block prints on paper before progressing to fabric. They then created personalised block-printed bags, allowing them to apply what they had learned and experience the process of making from concept to outcome.

Beyond introducing a traditional craft technique, the workshop created an informal space for students to interact with peers and faculty, exchange ideas, and begin building creative confidence. The activity reflected the School’s emphasis on learning through making, observation, and exploration.

The workshop marked a meaningful beginning to the students’ journey at Alliance School of Design, setting the tone for an academic experience shaped by curiosity, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
