Dr. Sunil Prashar

Dr. Sunil Prashar is a scholar-practitioner specializing in urban resilience, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation, and sustainable development. With over 11 years of international experience across Asia, Africa, and Europe, he has contributed to capacity building, applied research, and policy integration in disaster and climate resilience, working with governments, academia, UN agencies, and international development organizations.
Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU.Resilience), University of Southern Denmark, Dr. Prashar leads and supports interdisciplinary initiatives focused on strengthening resilience in urban environments through innovation, participatory planning, and institutional capacity development.
Previously, he worked with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in multiple regional programs, including the ADPC Academy’s Capacity Development Programme, Resilient Infrastructure Through Enhanced Knowledge, and national projects in Ethiopia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. He also served as Board Member of the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI), Kyoto University, Japan.
Dr. Prashar’s doctoral research at Kyoto University explored “Prioritizing Community Actions for Climate-Related Disaster Resilience: A Participatory Approach in Delhi, India.” His research continues to emphasize the integration of community-based planning, climate resilience assessment, and policy frameworks aligned with the Sendai Framework for DRR, Paris Agreement, and 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
He has published several peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and conference presentations, and is actively involved in graduate teaching, mentorship, and curriculum design in the areas of urban resilience and sustainability.
