Dr. Subrata Dey

Dr. Subrata Dey has had a distinguished career of learning, research and teaching spanning the continents of Asia, Australia, America and Europe. While his fundamental management education comes from the hallowed institution of IIM (Ahmedabad), he moved on to pursue his passion in the field of communication and media through an M.A. in Communication from Wake Forest University, USA. His doctoral study was in University of Adelaide, Australia and is based on the inter-disciplinary areas of Media theories and design thinking in Human Computer Interaction. It involves usage of futuristic technologies like eye-tracking in storytelling interfaces. Apart from these, he has under his hold a diploma in Film Direction and Production from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and has directed and scripted documentaries, corporate films and promotional films that has won accolades in India and abroad. Dr. Dey has taught courses in Wake Forest University, Georgia State University and University of Adelaide in the areas of media research methods, media theories, public speaking, business communication practices and media law. His experience in the corporate world has ranged from international marketing and corporate strategy formulation for the large corporates to that of providing leadership as a COO to an IT start-up. His current research interest is in the areas of eye-tracking and impact of remediation that involves embodied agents in virtual reality .

  • Richter Fellowship USA from the prestigious Richter Endowment (awarded competitively to only five graduate students) for traveling to Hungary and studying the ‘teenage film audience’ in Budapest.

  • Scripted and directed the corporate films for Wockhardt and ICICI Prudential.
  • Scripted and directed the documentary film “Purdah & Prayers”. Shot in India and Bangladesh, it was covered extensively by the diverse forms of the Indian media. The film was selected by the Competition section of Mumbai International Film Festival and later marketed successfully in the Cannes Television Market.
  • Scripted and directed “In Foreign Shoes”, a Study Abroad film for CIE, Wake Forest University.
  • Scripted and directed ‘The Real Heroes’, a Television Advertisement endorsed by the Indian Army for promoting a career in the Indian Army after the Kargil War.
