Sunil Jose is a seasoned lawyer with 29 years of experience in litigation and transaction matters, including 22 years in Intellectual Property (IP) matters and 8 years of international exposure to IP laws. He has worked with leading IP firms such as Abu-Ghazaleh IP and De Penning & De Penning. His accolades include being a LinkedIn Top Voice Awardee and receiving the Distinguished Toast Master Award in 2019.
His educational background is impressive, with certifications as a Commercial Mediator from the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, an LL.M in Intellectual Property Laws from Mahatma Gandhi University, and an LL.B from the University of Kerala. He has also completed various e-learning courses from UNITAR and the WIPO Academy.
Sunil has been a resource person for the Kerala Institute for Entrepreneurship Development and a guest speaker at several law schools, including Alliance School of Law and Amity Law School. He has delivered keynote speeches at international conferences, such as the International Law and Technology Conference.
His contributions to legal writing include co-authoring a chapter on Geographical Indications in India and publishing articles in The Trademark Lawyer and The Patent Lawyer Magazine. He has also contributed to The World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ Project and presented papers at national seminars.
Professionally, Sunil is the founder of Suns Legal Law Firm, a position he has held since 2018. He has previously worked as an Intellectual Property Attorney at De Penning & De Penning and held consultant roles at various law firms in Kuwait and India. His functional skills include expertise in patent, trademark, copyright, and domain name disputes, as well as strong relationship management and client negotiation skills.
Sunil's major professional accomplishments include advising multinational corporations and universities on brand strategies and successfully handling various IP enforcement cases across different regions. He has also been involved in significant legal actions, such as preventing the misappropriation of ISRO’s space probe brand and obtaining copyright protection for a national geo-portal developed by ISRO.
On a personal note, Sunil is proficient in English, Malayalam, and Tamil, and was born on May 31, 1972. His extensive experience, educational background, and professional achievements make him a distinguished figure in the field of Intellectual Property law.
