On 1st June 2022 Alliance University Legal Services Clinic, Alliance School of Law, Alliance University, Bengaluru with three faculty coordinators Prof. Mahantesh, Dr. Upankar and Prof. Gyanashree and Student members got a chance of visiting the prison and correctional services, central prison Bengaluru. As the name suggest correctional services the prison doesn’t hold back in providing rehabilitation to the prisoners. As a wide range of discoveries were made through the visit like a prisoner Devraj developed a Butter milk machine in the prison as he was an engineer and made it for the kitchen of Bengaluru central prison. The prison did not fall short of facilities as it included a fully functional library, well equipped hospital, music room, lecturers for education purposes, recreational facilities like: - crafts room, bakery, sports facilities, tailoring. There was a facility of nursery for the children age below 6 of the convicts and undertrial people so that the interest of child could be protected.

The most inquisitive part of the prison was that there was meditation conducted daily for an hour for the prisoner’s betterment and mental health. The intake of nutrition was looked into by providing them with nutritional food fulfilling the calorie intake and diversity factor.  The unique factor, which was supported by Mindtree, and prisoners trained by Radio city Bengaluru maintained a proper Bengaluru central prison FM. That was all led by the prisoners having knowledge about languages like Hindi, English, Urdu, Kannda as they all believed music doesn’t have a language and which provides them with good therapy in prison as music therapy is a part of recreation. But the deep concerning factor was that the prison could facilitate 4,500 prisoners but the current strength was 4,959 prisoners out of which more than 70% of prisoners were charged with rigorous imprisonment whether be undertrial or convicts (male-3665 & female 1294). Unlike the stereotypical perspective prison being a shady and filthy place Bengaluru central prison was well maintained and hygienic and did not raise concerns about right to life with dignity in prisoners. Most intriguing factor of this prison was that whether convicts or undertrials people aging from 18-21 were kept separately and given more recreational methods to rehabilitate them. In total it was a wholesome experience and an educational acumen for the law students.
