The Advanced Energy Transition Workshop is a focused, industry-connected initiative aimed at bringing together technology leaders, industry professionals, researchers, academicians, R&D organisations and other key stakeholders working across the energy-transition ecosystem.
Organised under the guidance of Dr. V. K. Saraswat (Member, NITI Aayog; Distinguished Scientist & Former Secretary, DRDO), the initiative is conceived in two phases, with the upcoming workshop on 26 October 2026 forming Phase I.
Phase I is designed as an outcome-oriented platform for examining technologies that can accelerate India’s energy transition and support the country’s Net Zero 2070 pathway. The focus will be on identifying priority technologies, implementation challenges, deployment barriers, critical technology gaps, researchable industry problems, opportunities for indigenous development, and areas for collaborative R&D, demonstration and deployment.
The outcomes of Phase I will provide the foundation for Phase II, which will take forward selected priority areas through deeper engagement, focused collaboration and potential technology development, pilot or demonstration initiatives.
Rather than approaching energy transition as a broad academic discussion, the initiative is intended to create a structured pathway from technology dialogue and problem identification to collaboration and implementation.
Discussions will focus on emerging priorities and opportunities, including:
Emerging technologies and approaches for increasing renewable-energy deployment, improving efficiency and strengthening integration with the wider energy ecosystem.
Technology pathways involving hydrogen, methanol and other emerging clean and low-carbon fuels, including production, storage, transportation and utilisation.
Technologies enabling cleaner mobility, including electrification, charging and supporting infrastructure, powertrain technologies and opportunities for reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
Advanced battery technologies and other energy-storage solutions required for renewable-energy integration, mobility, grid stability and large-scale energy applications.
These are the key focus areas of the workshop; detailed session titles and specific discussion topics will be developed around the participating experts and industry priorities.
Senior experts from industry, R&D, policy and the innovation ecosystem will share insights and engage in focused discussions.
