A two-day conference on the theme, 'Management Education in Emerging Economies' was hosted by Alliance University and jointly organized with the International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), USA. The IACBE is a U.S.-based accreditation agency whose mission is to promote excellence in management education across the world. The School of Business, Alliance University is the first business school in India to have received the accreditation from IACBE. In his keynote address, the renowned management thinker, Dr. Jagdish Sheth, Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing, Goizueta Business School, Emory University, USA, spoke on the challenges and opportunities in management education. Dr. Madhukar Angur, Chancellor, Alliance University, then addressed the plenary session and presented the opportunities for higher education as well as management education in the emerging economies of Asia. Dr. Angur also stressed on the opportunities that management institutes in India would gain from when they work together in collaborative academic arrangements.
The Conference received participation from more than 140 delegates from 9 countries who represented over 45 institutions. Over 35 papers were presented at the Conference during academic sessions and these focused on the future needs of management education and the changes required in the emerging economies of the world.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the host university were closely interwoven with the Conference. NGO's from Bangalore were invited to set up stalls for display and the sale of their products. The participating NGO's included Seva in Action, Dwarka Trust, Gramya Services Ltd, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, Aruna Chetana, and Art of Living. Later in the evening on the first day, delegates were presented a cultural program by Sunadha, a group established by 'Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled'. The highlights included memorable performances by visually challenged artists who regaled the audiences with their show of talent and determination.
The Conference concluded on the second day with the valedictory session and a sharing of insights by delegates on the lessons drawn from the intellectual discussions and a pledge to help facilitate continuing deliberations on the theme.
