CSR Initiative at Alliance University: Blood Donation Camp
As part of its corporate social responsibility mission, Alliance University, Bangalore organized a blood donation camp on September, 17 2011 at its campus in partnership with leading NGOs—Rotary Club and Rotaract Club, Jayanagar, Bangalore.
The blood donation camp was inaugurated by Dr. Madhukar Angur, Chancellor, Alliance University. In his message the Honorable Chancellor stated that it was a matter of pride for the University to host and organize this voluntary initiative. He also stated that while June 14 of each year is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day, Alliance University conducts blood donation camps throughout the year.
The Chancellor also emphasized the need for institutes of higher learning to create awareness on the importance of voluntary, unpaid, blood donation to ensure the supply of safe blood to recipients. Citing data, the Chancellor also stated that a large proportion of global blood supplies go only to about 18 per cent of the world’s people, leaving nearly 82 per cent of the global population (mostly women and children) inadequately covered - a significantly large proportion of them in developing countries.
He commended the participation of Alliance University’s students, staff and faculty in doing their part through action, although in small measure, to promote voluntary blood donation globally, and conveyed his congratulations to them.
